Overdraft Services

Overdraft services can be crucial when it counts most – those times when emergencies or unexpected expenses come up right when your balance is lowest.

Here's What You Need to Know About Overdraft Services

Q: What are Overdrafts and Overdraft Fees?

An overdraft occurs when you do not have enough money in your account to cover a transaction, but we pay it anyway. We can cover your overdrafts in two different ways:

  1. We have standard overdraft practices that come with your account.
  2. We also offer overdraft protection plans, such as transferring funds from another deposit account or our First Express Line of Credit, which may be less expensive than our standard overdraft practices. To learn more, ask us about these plans.

Q: What are the standard overdraft practices that come with my account?

We may authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions:
  • Checks and other transactions made using your checking account number
  • Automatic bill payments
We do not authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions, unless you ask us to:
  • Everyday debit card transactions
  • ATM transactions
We pay overdrafts at our discretion, which means we do not guarantee that we will always authorize and pay any type of transaction. If we do not authorize and pay an overdraft, your transaction will be declined at the time it is presented if the transaction exceeds your available balance.
Q: What are my choices for everyday debit card and ATM transactions?

You have several options:

  1. Choose OPT IN to receive Overdraft Services for ATM and everyday debit card transactions. Opting-in is free; you will only incur a charge if you overdraw your account.
  2. Choose OPT OUT to have us DECLINE any ATM withdrawals or Debit Card purchases that exceed your balance.
  3. Or, choose to apply for First Express Overdraft Protection line of credit, to cover the overdraft (ask us for more information – may require a separate application for credit approval).
  4. Set up an automatic transfer from another deposit account (ask us for more information).
If you take no action, you will automatically OPT OUT of ATM withdrawals and Debit Card purchases that exceed your balance.
Q: What fees will I be charged if First National Bank and Trust pays my overdraft?

Under our standard overdraft practices, we may authorize and pay checks and transactions using your checking account number, and automatic bill payments:

  • We will charge you a $31 fee each time we pay an overdraft.
  • There is a limit of no more than 10 overdraft fees we can charge you for overdrawing your account on any given day.

Or you may link your savings or other accounts for automatic transfers. Contact us to set this up, as it may require an authorization.
Q: What happens if I do nothing?
