Beloit, WI - Mr. Tony Capozziello, Family Consumer Education teacher at Beloit Memorial High School in Beloit, Wisconsin is the winner of the 2015 Financial Literacy Champion Award presented by First National Bank and Trust (FNBT). The prizes were awarded at a student assembly on Wednesday, May 27 at the school.
The Financial Literacy Champion contest was promoted through FNBT’s Facebook page. Mr. Capozziello was nominated by his colleague, Mary Kaye Richardson, for writing the curriculum and advocating for a financial literacy requirement at the high school. “Tony teaches with passion, helps students complete tax returns, and genuinely cares about these kids,” said Richardson. “He brings in speakers to his class and has the upmost commitment to exposing his students to the business world.” Capozziello was selected as a finalist. Voting was open to the community on the bank’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/FirstNationalBankandTrust.
“Financial education is so important,” said FNBT’s Elaine Ribarich, branch manager of the bank’s Grand Avenue office in Beloit. “The lessons students learn at school stick with them later in life. It is just good sound advice to discuss money management with high school students before they head off to college and into the working world.” This is the third year that the bank has awarded the Financial Literacy Champion Award.
