Beloit, WI – Mrs. Lisa Anzalone, Finance teacher at Elkhorn Area High School in Elkhorn, Wisconsin is the winner of the 2017 Financial Literacy Champion Award presented by First National Bank and Trust (FNBT).
Nominated by a fellow teacher for her commitment to financial literacy in the classroom, Anzalone received $100 individually and Elkhorn Area High School received a $1,000 grant from FNBT to continue financial education efforts at the school. The prizes were awarded on Friday, May 19 at the school.
The Financial Literacy Champion contest was promoted through FNBT’s Facebook page. Mrs. Anzalone was nominated by her colleague, JoAnne Pella, for developing exciting, interactive and memorable lesson plans for her students. “She is remarkable in her energy to come up with real-life scenarios where students can apply their learning and reinforce the financial concepts they need to know in life,” said Pella in her nomination submission. Anzalone was selected as a finalist and voting was open to the community on the bank’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/FirstNationalBankandTrust.
“Financial education is so important,” said FNBT’s Toni Hinds, manager of the bank’s Elkhorn branch. “The lessons students learn at school stick with them later in life. It is just good Sound Advice to discuss money management with high school students before they head off to college and into the working world.” This is the fifth year that the bank has awarded the Financial Literacy Champion Award.
